BISD Esports Team Wins TexSEF Undisputed State Championship, Advances to Nationals
  • Press Release

Birdville ISD’s Legends Valorant Esports team from the Birdville Center of Technology and Advanced Learning (BCTAL) is officially the best in Texas!

BISD took home the title at the Texas Scholastic Esports Federation (TexSEF) Undisputed State Championship, making an incredible run as a lower seed to claim the state championship. The victory was especially meaningful for the team after finishing as the state runner-up one year ago.

As a result, the team spent the past year focused on one goal – bringing home the state title.

“I have worked with these students for the last two to three years, and even after losing in the final match last year, the team never let that get them down,” said Ben Benton, who serves as the team’s coach and Game Design teacher/SkillsUSA advisor at the BCTAL. “I could not be prouder of their hard work and dedication to improving not only as individual players, but as a team. Seeing them play game after game in the tournament and never losing focus was inspiring. They deserved to win, and I can’t wait to see them perform on the national stage.”

Hosted by TexSEF, the Undisputed State Championship brings together qualifying teams from across Texas to compete in one of the state’s premier scholastic Esports events. TexSEF is a teacher-led nonprofit organization focused on connecting students through Esports while promoting leadership, communication, teamwork and college and career readiness opportunities in technology, broadcasting, digital media and gaming industries.

The team will now advance to the Esports Series Championship Nationals at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida, June 25-28, where top Esports teams from across the country compete for national recognition and scholarship opportunities.

Members of the BISD Legends Valorant Esports team include Kenny Tran, Diego Alvarez, Avery Nguyen, Diwash Dhakal, Logan Lange and Gavin Anile.
